2020 Juror: Kathryn Stats, Award-Winning Utah-Based Plein Air Painter
This class is designed for intermediate to advanced students who have had experience working in plein air. Focus will be on designing the large patterns in terms of value (dark to light). Developing these shapes into color and keeping the color true to the value they represent. Emphasis will be on: – Rearranging value patterns to produce a stronger design – Simplifying shapes and minimizing the number of values to keep design strong. – The number of values and percentage of each of those values in relationship to total mass are key to a strong painting. – Applying color within defined value boundaries.
